Scholarship Programs
New River Light & Power Company contributes $750,000 each year to the
general scholarship fund at Appalachian State University. This contribution
goes to support the Chancellor's Scholarship and other scholarships awarded
in the name of the university.
In addition , New River Light & Power Company administers a scholarship
program in conjunction with the scholarship programs offered by Appalachian
State University. The New River Light and Power Scholarship is available for
current graduating high school seniors of Watauga County. There are a total
of 15 scholarships to be awarded.
Five scholarship awards of $2,000 each are based on merit. Five scholarship
awards of $1,000 each are also based on merit. The five remaining scholarship
awards of $1,000 each are based on merit and financial need. Persons who would
like to be considered for the financial need and merit based scholarships must
submit a statement indicating financial need.
The New River Light and Power Scholarship is renewable for up to eight consecutive
semesters or four years of undergraduate work. All recipients must maintain
a required GPA at the end of each academic year in order to retain the scholarship.
