Message from the Chief

The Appalachian community cares deeply about the safety and well being of everyone on our campus. Our Police Department is working hard to create a safe learning, living and working environment. To help us achieve this goal, we have implemented a Community Oriented policing philosophy. We believe that public safety is a joint responsibility of our police officers and the community they serve. Our Community Oriented Policing philosophy emphasizes crime prevention and solving crime through partnerships, education and awareness programs, pro-active patrolling and quality officer training and education. However, a truly safe campus can only be achieved through the cooperation of the entire university community. Therefore, I ask each of you to join your University Police Department in a partnership to make Appalachian State University a community where safety and security are top priorities. By working together we can make a difference.
