DIVISION 11 - EQUIPMENT

11000 General

Select equipment and materials that are readily available and maintenance-supported in the Boone region. Ensure that the specification requires maintenance stocks, training, O&M data, and subcontractor/supplier information.

11200 Parking Gates

1. See section 2.2.4 of the Design Manual for parking requirements.

2. See Section 16730 for control requirements.

3. Entrance gates will have their own power supply and the opener will be provided with a contact that will open the gate upon a dry contact closure from the AC5000. The gate will close when it senses that the car has passed. Use a Federal APD-G90-LCD Series Barrier Gate which is a 1 ampere, 24 VDC/VAC low voltage system.

4. Exit gates will have their own power supply and a sensing device that will open the gate when a car approaches from the parking lot side and another sensing device that will close the gate once the car has passed. Use the Federal APD-G90-LCD Series Barrier Gate.

5. Provide the gate island with place to mount a Griffin AR5000 card reader 10-12' before the gate. Conduit will run from this unit to the gate opener housing.

6. Provide the gate island with a 3/4" conduit for power into the gate opening housing.

7. Provide the gate island with a 3/4" conduit for control signals for the ASU Griffin Control System into the gate opener housing. Run this conduit in the most direct path possible to a room inside the closest climate controlled building where the Griffin AC5000 can be mounted with access to 120VAC and a path to a DAC5000. Try for a total length of less than 100'; if that is not possible, do not exceed 200' and inform the owner so that the appropriate control cable can be used.

8. Provide a 3/4" conduit form the gate opener housing to the edge of the curb for the entrance and exit gates. This conduit will be used for the sensor wire placed in the pavement so the curb will not need to be cut.

11300 Hand Held Fire Extinguishers

1. Install 10-12 pound ABC type fire extinguishers in recessed fire extinguisher cabinets where needed.

2. Install CO-2 fire extinguishers in hazardous areas and in mechanical room areas.

3. Install BC rated type fire extinguishers in cooking areas.

11400 Trash Compactors

A. Trash compactors shall have a 6-1/2' by 6-1/2' by 6 foot deep (8 yards/6.1 cubic meters) trash holder with compactor located on top, such as the VERT-I_PACK unit by Marathon (1-800-849-8727).

B. The trash-truck access roll-up-door for units located within the dormitory shall be a minimum of 10 to 12 feet wide and a minimum of 12 feet high, have controls on the inside and on the outside of the room, and be equipped with a remote control. The control on the outside of the building shall have a key control that can inactivate the push-buttons. The remote control transmitter in the trash-truck should be capable of opening roll-up doors in all dormitories.

C. Ample room shall be provided for re-cycle containers and for cleaning and maintenance.

D. Students shall be able to deposit their trash easily and safely without climbing steps, and odors into the building shall not be a problem.

E. A ventilation fan shall be provided in the compactor area along with a hose bib and a place to store a hose, mop, and broom. The floor shall slope to a 12" x 12" drain with a minimum 6 to 8 inch drain pipe to the sanitary sewer system.

F. A means must be provided to keep the temperature of the room at 40 degrees F or above so the hydraulics will work properly and ice will not become a safety hazard.
